Day 4
Today we got rested up from yesterday's busyness. We decided to change the National Museum to today because Thursday everyone was so tired after the National Palace! The National Museum is shaped like the International School because it is a perfect square but in the middle of the square there is a courtyard. The museum architecture was similar to the National Palace buildings because in even intervals you would find the tail of Naga the dragon that protected the god of chaos. Beautiful flowers and plant life lined the outside of the museum. There was a plant with a double bloom because it had a lot of white flowers but coming from those white flowers you found pink flowers that were even bigger. Inside the museum they talked about the history of Buddhism and the early rulers of more ancient civilizations in Cambodia. The court yard was very peaceful place to be because there were four small ponds that were squares and you walked on paths in between. Flowers were everywhere from big to small. When we were finished with our tour of the museum we had a group discussion of what we had been thinking and feeling through the trip. Everyone was able to share there feelings and thoughts and opinions of the things we'd experienced in Cambodia. The topics varied from the Khmer Rouge to Why does God allow natural disasters? It was a stimulating conversation.
LUNCH
We went to Friends for lunch. Friends is a restaurant that embraces street children and teaches them how to work as waiters. They have two different types of shirts. One is for teachers and is red and one is for students and is blue. It is a wonderful ministry and helps children become successful adults.
In the afternoon we went to two different places for activities: The Russian Market and the Mall. They were both cultural experiences about what more public places were like. I went with the Guitobu girls to the mall and saw a movie. Alistair and Elisha went with us too. We saw Cars 2 because Nichole and Nicholas had not seen it.
The Drums
We went to see a performance of drums at a theater. It was a very interesting experience because the sounds they could make with there drums was incredible! They used all sides of their drums and there hands flew at amazing speeds at some points. They used their voices a lot at some points and used the plute to help give higher pitches.
