Day 8
Today started with going to the facility and starting worship and the second plenary. Tom B led this plenary as well. In each plenary someone from the team taught a story to the pastors and then Tom would give information on it and inspire storytelling even more. This plenary dissolved into workshops with the same groups. I went around and tried to film as many groups as possible.
Cambodians are natural storytellers because this is such an oral culture. In the first workshops they learned the stories beautifully and all told them with extreme enthusiasm. We are very excited for the epic telling!
The afternoon brought a small brake for about two hours. Most of the team went back to the hotel but Elisha, Tola, Tarra, and I stayed at the facility. Tarra invited us on to the stage and told me that I could play the keyboard and I didn't need asking twice! It was a lot of fun to play the piano again. They started to put music in front of me and started singing along. Before we knew it, we were a band that was about to perform at the celebration banquet that night! We really enjoyed playing and singing together.
When everyone gathered again we had the next plenary.
The evening brought the celebration banquet. The celebration banquet was in the Great Hall. Everyone gathered together and listened to the band play while they brought a small vat of coals and wood that was on fire and on top of that they put a pot full of water. This was used as a grill. They brought over a tray of raw meat like beef, pork, squid, etc. They put some of that on the grill and we watched as the water expanded around the meat. It was really neat! The meal was really good and now I know why they say everything is better when it is cooked over a fire.
Our little band performed after dinner. It went extremely well! Everyone seemed to enjoy it after the first nerves over the big crowd.
Over all it was a very enjoyable night!
